2013 Perseid Meteor Shower over Pismo Beach, CA
The 2013 Perseid is now over. The night (Aug11th) in which the meteor frequency peaked, was abysmal as the coastal marine layer blanketed the Central Coast. I figured last night would be the same and made no plan to try again. That is until I saw a news report talking about it and the reporter said he saw a couple with his naked eye. I figured what the hell, meteor showers aren’t every day, lets do this. I decide to try my luck out at Monarch Dunes golf course where there would be minimal city light and less chance to encounter the marine layer. Couldn’t have been more wrong. The fog was so thick I couldn’t even drive the speed limit. So I turned around to head back home. As I reached home, I saw 1 star high out over the ocean. I wondered what are the odds Pismo will be clear. So I headed out. To my luck, there just happened to be a completely open section of sky. This section of sky held the constellation which the meteors came from. The stars and sky literally aligned for me. It was only 20 mins worth of clear sky, But allowed me to get some really cool photos of meteors over Pismo.
